IRENA (2026), Renewable Energy Statistics, July release, processed by Our World in Data; accessed25October2026.75 annual observations for India, Germany and Japan. Installed capacity, not electricity generated or a global top3. Values are stocks, never added across years. Common period begins2001 because India 2000 is absent; no missing data filled. Animation between annual observations is illustrative. July revisions are used consistently, including India 2024 and Germany 2025. Total maximum net generating capacity of solar installations, including photovoltaic and concentrated solar power, on and off the grid. These are year-end stocks, not annual electricity output, cumulative electricity generation or capacity per person. No cumulative sum is applied. Only India, Germany and Japan are selected; China, the US and other countries are outside this chart. The ordering is not a global podium.
All 25 common annual observations per country are retained, from 2001 through 2025. India 2000 is missing in the source, so no 2000 point is created. Source decimal precision is retained in the CSV; displayed labels are rounded. The moving bars interpolate between observations; they do not establish the precise date of any overtake.
IRENA (2026), processed by Our World in Data: Total solar capacity, July 2026 release, downloaded 25 October 2026. The earlier March capacity report gives98.482 GW for India 2024 and106.272 GW for Germany 2025. The July dataset gives97.57622 GW and107.192 GW respectively. We use the July series consistently in the chart, article and downloads. Differences in stock between years are net changes in the reported series, not necessarily gross new installations. No endorsement by IRENA or OWID is implied.
