Switch takes the crown

What the lines mean

Switch is worldwide cumulative hardware sell-in at fiscal years ending in March, 2017–2026. The three other lines are fixed lifetime benchmarks: Nintendo DS 154.02 million, Game Boy 118.69 million and Wii 101.63 million. Repeated benchmark rows are reference values, not historical yearly observations for those consoles. The comparison concerns Nintendo hardware, not every console manufacturer. Shipments are not active players, unique owners or retail sell-through.

Switch includes Lite and OLED, excludes Switch 2. Game Boy includes Game Boy Color. Console photos illustrate their families rather than every model.

Source and rounding

Nintendo historical data: Consolidated Sales Transition by Region, FY3/2026. Switch annual worldwide hardware: Sheet4 E12:N12 (source units: ten thousands); DS lifetime Sheet2 Y11; Wii lifetime Sheet2 Y33; Game Boy lifetime Sheet1 X21. Download annual Switch observations and calculation (CSV) or chart data (CSV).

The annual Switch amounts are summed once, then rounded to 0.1 million. Their rounded-source sum is 155.93 million; Nintendo’s separately published lifetime total is 155.92 million. Both display 155.9 million. This small rounding difference is not treated as additional sales. Legacy totals are likewise displayed to one decimal. Animated transitions interpolate annual observations and do not establish the precise date of a milestone. Coverage ends March 2026; later quarterly figures are excluded for consistent annual sampling. Retrieved 31 October 2026.
